What is Northeast Louisiana Celtic Festival all about?
The NELA Celtic Festival is the creation of Doyle and Yvette Jeter, publicans of Enoch's Irish Pub in Monroe. Great supporters of the arts and community, as well as fans of Irish and Celtic culture, they saw the need for a home grown event to promote awareness and appreciation of the Celtic culture in Louisiana and the region.
For the first three years, the festival was held at and in cooperation with the Louisiana Purchase Gardens & Zoo. It has grown by leaps and bounds every year, and has found its new home at the Expo Center in West Monroe. It's gotten to be quite an event!
Where is does the Northeast Louisiana Celtic Festival take place?
Our festival takes place at the Ike Hamilton Expo Center in West Monroe, Louisiana. It is located right off of Interstate 20 exit 113. You can get directions to the Expo Center here.
What if it rains?
We have it covered -- literally! Most of the festival is indoors and air conditioned,, so the NELA Celtic Festival goes on RAIN OR SHINE!!!
Do we bring chairs or blankets?
There is stadium seating for over 2000 and some additional seating on the concert floor. You're free to bring your own chair and blanket, however.
Who is performing at this year's NELA Celtic Festival?
Check out the Entertainment page to find out!
Are there photos available from previous CelticFests?
Sure, and you can see them here.
Is it pronounced KELtic or SELtic?
It’s a hard “C”, so KELtik is correct. The Romans identified the “Celtae” as one of the crowds they conquered in Gaul, and Romans pronounced hard “C”s. (If it were pronounced "seltic", then that's how they would have spelled it.)
Can I buy tickets in advance or online?
Tickets will be available at the Expo Center in advance. We hope to possibly offer them online or through mail for those who like to avoid lines.
How much is the admission?
See our Admission page for rates. (In the interest of preserving the webmaster’s useful lifespan, this information will be posted in one place)
What if I wanted to get in for free?
There are certainly ways to do so. We often give away free weekend passes (in pairs, bring a friend) on local radio give-aways. Or you could volunteer for a shift and get in free the day you work -- we always need a good man or woman!
What times do the gates open and close?
Check out the Schedule page to see the times.
Should I bring the kids? Are there children’s activities?
Absolutely and yes! The Northeast Louisiana Celtic Festival is a family-friendly event, with plenty of things that all audiences can attend together. There is a designated children’s stage and other children's activities.
Is the NELA Celtic Festival wheelchair accessible? How about stroller-friendly?
The festival is wheelchair and stroller accessible.
Is there an ATM nearby?
Located in the Expo Center parking lot.
Can I take pictures?
To your heart’s content. There is plenty going on, and plenty of things to capture your and your camera's attention.
Can I bring my Celtic dog?
Unfortunately, not at this time, due in part to the fact that the grounds generally house horses, livestock, etc., and the Expo and festival want to be sure to practice good health policy. However, we are looking into ways that we can include Celtic dogs into a separate area of the festival.
Official assistance animals, such as seeing eye dogs, will be permitted onto the grounds.
Will there be any First Aid on site?
Yes, there will be first aid and Powerade.
What about Lost and Found?
A lost-and-found section will be set up at the festival's Main Stage, and we'll do our best to reunite owners to property.
Where can I park? Is it Free?
The Expo Center features free parking.
If I come in from out of town, where should I stay?
Visit the Lodgings section for more information.
I'm a Celtic musician. Are there any sessions?
Yes! There is an informal session traditionally held at Enoch's Irish Pub in Monroe on the Saturday night of the festival.
Does the Northeast Louisiana Celtic Society have a mailing list?
At the time this F.A.Q. was compiled, the Northeast Louisiana Celtic Society does not yet have a mailing list. However, current events are posted on their website (and sign ups for the mailing list when it's active).
I'd like to volunteer to help . How do I do that?
